Nail polish can dissolve in acetone or other solvents, but those products can also damage acetate, triacetate, some dyes, and finishes. Before treating the stain, read the garment label, remove excess without spreading it, and test any solvent on a hidden area.
Detergent goes where the washer design specifies: the main-wash drawer, a dedicated dispenser, or in some machines directly in the drum. Product format matters too. Pods, powder, and liquid do not always go in the same place, so use both the washer manual and detergent label.

Clothes commonly shrink in the dryer because of a combination of heat, tumbling, and time, especially when the fabric is already prone to dimensional change. The best prevention is to follow the care label, use only the heat needed, and remove garments when dry instead of extending the cycle by habit.
Rust stains need a different approach from many food or body stains. Iron can react badly with chlorine bleach and make discoloration worse, so identify the fabric, use a laundry-safe rust remover when appropriate, and rinse thoroughly before washing.
Some silk garments can be washed at home, while others are labeled for professional cleaning only. Let the care label decide: if washing is allowed, use cool water, gentle movement, and a mild detergent, and avoid wringing or direct heat while drying.
Pilling happens when loose fibers rub, tangle, and remain attached to the fabric surface. It cannot always be prevented completely, but reducing friction, choosing an appropriate cycle, and limiting unnecessary heat can slow it significantly, especially on knits and synthetic blends.
Pills can be removed without pulling healthy fibers when the garment is laid flat and the right tool is used. A fabric shaver or purpose-made comb is usually more controlled than picking by hand; work gradually and stop if the fabric begins to thin.
Some towels can be washed with clothes, but mixing every item in one load is not always a good idea. Lint, weight, color, and wash requirements matter: a new or heavy towel can shed fibers onto dark or delicate clothing and can make a load harder to balance.
Chocolate combines fat, sugar, cocoa, and sometimes milk, so a stain may need more than a quick rinse. The practical approach is to remove excess without spreading it, work with cool water, and make sure the mark is gone before using dryer or iron heat.
