A freezer door that will not close is often blocked by food or drawers, has ice around the frame, a dirty or distorted gasket, or an alignment problem. Fixing the closure promptly prevents frost and temperature loss.
Remove obstructions and check drawers
Remove protruding packages and confirm baskets, shelves, and drawers are fully seated. A small package behind a drawer can hold the door open by several millimeters without being visible from outside.
Clean ice and debris from the gasket
Defrost ice according to the manual and clean the gasket with mild soap and water. Do not use sharp tools or intense heat on plastic parts or the seal.
Check gasket contact around the full perimeter
Close a strip of paper at several points and see whether it resists being pulled out. Areas with no grip can indicate a distorted gasket, misaligned door, or hinges that need adjustment.
Protect food if the door still will not seal
Move food to another freezer or appropriate cold storage if temperature is rising. A hinge problem, warped cabinet, or damaged gasket may require parts or service before the appliance can be trusted again.
