If one radiator stays cold while others heat normally, the issue is often local to that radiator: trapped air, a closed or stuck valve, poor flow, or sludge. If every radiator is cold, the problem is more likely at the boiler, pump, thermostat, or system level rather than one emitter.
Compare the cold radiator with the rest
Let the heating run long enough and check whether other radiators warm normally. One cold radiator suggests a localized issue; several cold units shift the diagnosis toward circulation or heat generation.
A cold top can indicate trapped air
If the bottom warms while the top stays cold, trapped air may be present. Bleeding according to the system procedure can help, but check boiler pressure afterward because releasing air can lower it.
A cold bottom fits sludge or low flow better
A radiator hot at the top and cold at the bottom is not usually fixed by repeated bleeding. Sediment, a partly closed valve, or poor balancing can restrict flow through the lower section.
A stuck valve or multiple cold radiators need broader troubleshooting
Check only accessible controls and do not open a boiler or combustion components. A seized valve, leak, abnormal pressure, or several failing radiators calls for a broader system assessment.
