Notice what triggers the gurgle
If it happens during a flush, start with the toilet drain itself. If it gurgles when a tub, washer, or sink drains, the issue may be in a shared branch.
Watch the bowl water level
Water that rises, falls, or disappears along with the noise points to pressure changes. Do not keep flushing if the bowl is close to overflowing.
Check for other slow drains
One slow fixture is often local; several slow fixtures plus gurgling make a shared or main-line blockage more likely.
Do not climb onto the roof just to check a vent
A plumbing vent can be blocked, but exterior inspection involves roof access. If indoor symptoms point to the vent or main line, call a plumber.
