Laminate flooring that lifts, tents, or separates is usually reacting to moisture, insufficient expansion space, an uneven subfloor, or a damaged locking joint. The shape and location of the lift help determine whether an edge adjustment is enough or water may be trapped below.
Look for moisture first
Check for nearby leaks, damp seams, dark swelling, and whether the problem followed a spill or overly wet cleaning. If water is still present, stop the source before pressing boards down or placing weight on them.
Broad tenting can indicate insufficient expansion space
Floating floors need a small perimeter gap so they can move with humidity and temperature. Baseboards, door frames, or fixed cabinetry that pin the floor can prevent movement and cause tenting away from the wall.
A localized lift can come from a joint or subfloor problem
If only one or two planks move, a broken locking joint, debris underneath, or a high spot in the subfloor may be involved. Do not screw or glue a floating floor to the subfloor just to force it flat.
Water-swollen planks often need replacement
The core of many laminate products does not return to its original thickness after swelling. Once the source is fixed and a raised edge remains after drying, replacing affected planks is usually more reliable than trying to press them flat.
