A sudden increase in flies can mean they are entering from outdoors or breeding inside or very near the home. The species, room, and how quickly they return after removal help reveal the source.
Separate outdoor entry from indoor emergence
If flies appear mainly when doors or windows are open, inspect screens and closures. If they keep appearing with everything shut, look for trash, organic material, drains, food, or a dead animal in a cavity.
Size and location narrow the search
Large flies at windows do not point to the same source as tiny flies around produce or drains. Basic identification prevents spending time cleaning areas unrelated to the infestation.
Remove the source before relying on sprays
Empty and wash bins, discard spoiled food, clean spills, and inspect damp organic areas. Insecticide may kill exposed adults, but it will not stop new flies emerging while larvae still have a breeding medium.
Heavy activity with no visible source may need help
If dozens keep appearing for days and no source is visible, breeding may be occurring in a wall cavity, chimney, attic, or nearby exterior area. Professional inspection can locate it without blanket spraying indoors.
