Read the care label before getting cashmere wet. If it calls for professional cleaning, follow that instruction; if washing is allowed, treat the garment as very delicate wool.
Use stable cool or lukewarm water
Avoid sudden temperature changes. Dissolve a small amount of wool- or delicate-safe detergent before adding the garment.
Press and swish gently instead of rubbing
Move the garment slowly through the water. Do not brush, wring, or scrub sections against each other; moisture, heat, and friction encourage felting.
Rinse without stretching
Support the garment’s weight as you change water. Do not lift a saturated sweater by one sleeve or shoulder.
Remove water with a towel
Lay the garment flat, roll it gently in a clean towel, and press. Then reshape the shoulders, sleeves, and edges to their original dimensions.
Dry flat
Wet cashmere can stretch under its own weight, so avoid hanging it. Keep it away from intense direct heat and tumble drying unless the label specifically allows a method.
Surface pilling does not necessarily mean the garment is dirty. Remove pills only when dry with a tool intended for knitwear, taking care not to thin the fabric.
