A duvet cover washes like a large bedding item, but closing buttons or the zipper and preventing it from wrapping around other laundry improves the result. The care label determines temperature and drying for the fabric and finish.
Remove the duvet and close the cover
Remove the duvet insert completely, close the zipper or buttons, and inspect seams. Turning a printed or dark-colored cover inside out can reduce visible abrasion during washing.
Do not overload the washer
The cover needs room to open and let water circulate. If it twists into a tight ball with sheets and towels, detergent distribution and rinsing become less effective.
Dose detergent for the load and water conditions
Use the amount recommended for the actual load size and water hardness. Excess product can leave a stiff feel or lingering fragrance, especially on densely woven fabric.
Dry fully before storing or remaking the bed
Shake the cover out after washing to separate layers and dry according to the label. Storing it or putting it over the duvet while damp traps moisture in a large item that can take longer than expected to dry.
