A bed squeaks when parts of the frame, foundation, headboard, or floor move and rub against one another. The fastest path to a fix is isolating the noisy component before tightening every fastener or adding lubricant without knowing the source.
Test the mattress, foundation, and frame separately
Remove the mattress and press on the foundation, then test the empty frame and headboard. If the noise disappears when one piece is separated, you have identified which component needs attention.
Tighten loose joints without overtightening
Check screws, bolts, and brackets with the correct tool and tighten only until the joint is firm. In wood, overtightening can strip threads or crush material and make looseness worse.
Reduce rubbing between compatible surfaces
Felt pads, washers, or appropriate spacers can keep wood, metal, or headboard parts from rubbing. Use lubricant only where the manufacturer allows it and avoid oils that can stain wood, upholstery, or bedding.
Make sure the floor and legs support the bed evenly
A leg that does not bear weight evenly lets the frame twist as you move. Level it with a stable non-slip support; if a frame member is cracked or bent, replace or repair it rather than merely masking the squeak.
