Musty towels often hold soil, detergent residue, or moisture because the washer was overloaded or the towels dried too slowly. Rewash with enough room for rinsing and dry them completely before storage.
Do not add extra detergent just because of odor
Too much detergent can remain in the fibers and make rinsing harder. Use the correct dose for the load and washer type.
Give towels room to move in the washer
A packed washer limits water and detergent movement. Separate other bulky items if they prevent thorough washing and rinsing.
Dry thoroughly without delay
Move towels to the dryer or drying line when the cycle ends. Storing them damp or leaving them in the washer for hours encourages odor to return.
If multiple loads smell, inspect the washer
A door gasket, dispenser, accessible filter, or retained moisture can transfer odor to clean textiles. Clean the washer according to its manual instead of repeatedly treating each towel.
