An air purifier needs clear intakes, grilles, and prefilters to maintain airflow. The main filter may be disposable and nonwashable, so proper cleaning starts by identifying each filtration stage and following the manual rather than washing the entire assembly.
Unplug before opening the service cover
Turn the unit off and unplug it before removing grilles or filters. Vacuum exterior dust first so it does not fall inside when the service compartment is opened.
Clean prefilters only if they are designed for it
Some prefilters are vacuumed while others are washable. If washed, let them dry fully; a damp layer in front of the main filter can encourage odor and growth.
Do not wash a high-efficiency filter unless the manufacturer allows it
High-efficiency particulate filters can deform or lose performance if wetted. Replace them according to the indicator, interval, or airflow decline, and avoid aggressive brushing that damages the media.
Clean sensors and grilles using the specified method
Dust on a sensor can distort automatic readings. Use a dry cloth or swab only where the manual permits and do not spray cleaner into electronics.
