White vinegar can help with some laundry tasks, but it is not a universal additive for every washing machine. Its acidity can affect some internal materials and it must never be mixed with bleach, so the appliance manual comes first.
Check whether the manufacturer allows it
Some manufacturers discourage vinegar in the dispenser or cleaning cycles because of possible effects on seals and components. If the manual specifies a product or procedure, use that instead of improvising a concentration.
Never mix it with bleach
Acid and bleach can release dangerous chlorine gas. If a cycle used bleach, rinse thoroughly before introducing an acidic product and never combine the two in the same dispenser or load.
It does not replace laundry detergent
Vinegar may help with some mineral residue or odor, but it does not contain the surfactant system needed to remove body oils and soil. Correct detergent dosing remains the basis of normal washing.
Persistent odor needs a cause-based fix
A washer with biofilm, a dirty filter, detergent buildup, or standing water is not fixed by repeatedly pouring in vinegar. Clean manufacturer-specified areas and check drainage, seals, and drying habits.
