The safest setup for a portable space heater is a direct connection to a suitable wall outlet, not an extension cord or power strip. Space heaters draw substantial power, and an inadequate connection can overheat.
Plug it directly into the wall
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use a firm, undamaged wall receptacle. Avoid multi-plug adapters, power strips, and coiled cords.
Heat at the plug or outlet is a stop signal
If the plug, receptacle, or cord becomes unusually hot, smells burnt, or discolors, switch off and stop using the setup.
Avoid sharing the circuit with heavy loads
Space heaters, microwaves, hair dryers, and other high-load appliances can overload a circuit when used together. A tripping breaker should not be ignored.
Keep clearance from combustible materials
Place the heater on a stable surface and away from clothing, curtains, bedding, and furniture as directed by the manual. Do not leave it operating unattended or while sleeping if the manufacturer advises against it.
