A washer that will not start may have no power, may not detect a closed door, may be waiting on a control lock, or may not be receiving water. Start with what the panel shows and avoid bypassing electrical or door-safety devices.
Separate a dead panel from an active panel
If there are no lights or sounds, test the receptacle with a simple device if safe, check the breaker or GFCI where applicable, and confirm the cord is connected. Do not open the washer to test live voltage.
Check the door, lid, and control lock
Remove clothing caught in the latch and close the door firmly. A lock icon may mean child lock or control lock; follow the manual’s button sequence rather than forcing the door.
Check cycle selection and water supply
Some models pause several seconds after Start or will not begin if water is unavailable. Confirm supply valves are open, hoses are not kinked, and the cycle selection is complete.
Repeated clicking, odor, or latch failure needs service
If the door will not lock, the panel shows a persistent code, or there is a burning smell, stop repeated reset attempts. The latch, controls, or internal power circuit may need professional diagnosis.
