Separate silence from humming

Complete silence points toward power, the switch, or thermal protection. A hum means the unit is receiving power but the motor cannot rotate freely.

Check power without opening wiring

Check the plug, wall switch, and circuit protection. If the model has a reset button, use it only with the disposal switched off and after it has cooled.

If it hums, disconnect power before clearing a jam

Use only the manufacturer-approved wrench or tool at the intended access point. Never insert fingers even when the wall switch is off.

Burning smell or repeated resets need service

If it repeatedly trips, leaks, or smells burnt, leave it out of service. The motor, wiring, or seals may need repair or replacement.
