Remove grit before mopping

Sweep or vacuum on a hard-floor setting. This reduces fine scratches and keeps you from spreading grit around the room.

Use a damp, not soaking, mop

Warm water and a manufacturer-approved cleaner are usually enough. Change dirty mop water so you do not leave a gray film behind.

Protect seams and edges

Even water-resistant vinyl installations can have seams or moisture-sensitive subfloors. Wipe spills promptly and do not leave standing water. Pay particular attention to plank edges near exterior doors and kitchens, where repeated wetting can reach the subfloor.

Avoid film-forming products

Wax, oily soaps, or too much detergent can make the floor tacky and attract more dirt. If residue remains, reduce the dose and rinse as the manufacturer recommends.
