Clean a ceiling fan with power off, a stable ladder, and a barely damp cloth. Most dust collects on the leading edge and upper surface of the blades.
Turn it off and let it stop completely
Do not grab a moving blade. If possible, switch off the wall control as well so no one starts the fan while you are working.
Use a ladder, not stacked furniture
Set the ladder on firm flooring and avoid leaning sideways. If you cannot reach while keeping your body centered between the rails, climb down and reposition it.
Capture dust instead of scattering it
A microfiber cloth or old pillowcase slipped over each blade captures dust as you pull it off. Wipe the motor housing afterward with a nearly dry cloth.
Do not bend blades or wet the motor
Support each blade near its bracket while wiping and avoid downward pressure. Never spray liquid into slots, light kits, or the motor housing.
