A dryer that will not start may have an unrecognized door, a setting that prevents starting, loss of power, a tripped breaker, or an open internal safety component. Start with external checks; do not perform live-voltage tests or bypass thermal or door switches.
Confirm the door, start control, and settings
Close the door until the latch engages and check child lock, delayed start, and cycle selection. Some models require holding Start for several seconds; use the manual before assuming a fault.
Check power from outside the appliance
Make sure the plug is secure and the circuit has not tripped. High-power electric dryers may use a double-pole breaker; reset it only once from fully off and do not keep resetting it if it trips again.
A door that does not engage the switch can prevent starting
If the door will not latch, the striker is broken, or the appliance does not detect closure, clean the area and inspect visible parts. Do not hold or bypass the door switch to make the dryer run.
A thermal fuse or internal fault requires fixing the cause
A thermal fuse can open after overheating from poor airflow or another fault. Replacing it without checking the vent, lint filter, and overheating cause can lead to another failure; internal diagnosis belongs to service work with power isolated.
