Water around a boiler, radiator, or heating appliance can come from a joint, valve, pipe, safety discharge, or condensate system. The amount, exact source, and whether it appears while heating help narrow it down; repeatedly topping up system pressure without finding the leak is not a fix.
Trace where the water starts without opening the appliance
Dry the area and observe visible connections, valves, and pipes from outside while the system runs only if it is safe to do so. Do not remove covers that expose gas, combustion, or energized electrical parts.
A damp valve or joint may leak more when hot
Parts expand and pressure changes during a heating cycle. A small drip at a radiator valve, vent, or joint should be repaired before it damages flooring or walls; do not blindly tighten a hot connection.
A safety discharge points to another problem
If a relief or discharge pipe is wet, the valve may be responding to abnormal pressure or temperature, or the valve itself may have failed. Never cap or disable it; the system needs diagnosis.
A large leak or water near electricity is a stop condition
If water is accumulating quickly, reaching outlets or wiring, or system pressure repeatedly falls, shut the system down from a dry, safe location and call for service. If an identified water valve can be closed safely, use it to limit damage while help is arranged.
