A pet bed collects hair, body oils, saliva, and sometimes urine or mud, but not every foam core or filling is washable. Separating the cover, insert, and rigid parts lets you clean what needs it without leaving a thick core damp for days.
Remove hair and debris before adding water
Vacuum seams, edges, and under the cushion; wet hair clumps together, can load washer filters, and sticks to fabric. Brush off dried mud before laundering.
Separate the cover from the insert when possible
Check labels on both pieces because the cover may be machine washable while the foam insert allows only spot cleaning. Close zippers and repair open seams before washing so filling does not escape.
Treat urine or vomit as a specific stain
Remove solids, blot liquid, and use a cleaner compatible with the fabric and the pet’s needs. Do not mask contamination with fragrance; rinse thoroughly so irritating residue is not left behind.
Do not return the bed until the filling is fully dry
Thick foam can feel dry outside while remaining damp inside. Increase airflow and check several surfaces; if the core is still damp, it can develop odor or mold and should not be returned to the floor yet.
